This magnificent object is called the "Acekard 2" for the DS It is only one of the many variety of hacking items used to download games without having to pay for them. These people are called "pirates" "hackers" dare I say: "assholes." But there are different types of people who use them.
1.) The Asshole
The person who never buys any games, and simply downloads all of them because he/she can.
This type of person is the one deserving of the term asshole. They'll get all the tools they need to download and play whatever games they want, without spending another cent on actually buying games they deem worthy of being bought. This is the type of person whom the companies are after, and the types of people that cost them money, and why they work so hard to update firmware to block these people.
2.) The Conservative
The person who uses this to download homebrew programs/play downloaded games, but STILL goes out and buys the games he/she deems worth buying. This type of person most likely uses this because, hell, we all don't have the money to buy any game that strikes our fancy, so we'd want to test out/play the games we think will be okay first!
This type of person suffers because of "The Asshole." A number of people aren't aware that tools like the "Acekard 2" for the DS allow aspiring programmers to build their OWN applications and have them available for download. Unfortunately, most people just use it only interested in the ability to get free games, and not caring about ever buying them again, or not using it for homebrew apps: many of which can add more usefulness to the system. Such as:
Ever want to access your desktop from your DS? Sure you can! There's an app for that!
Or how would you like to use your DS as your very own drawing/painting tablet? There's an app for that too!
There are many more examples than this, but the DS and well as the Wii are very popular systems for hobbyist programmers to get their inventive juices flowing, and not just used as a hacking system to play free games! That's just the tip of the iceburg.
I for one use it to download games that I've always wanted to try, and games that I don't have the money for at the moment, but will definately buy in the future. So just because somebody uses one of these tools, don't immediately look down on them, because they are truly awesome things that I would recommend every DS owner get to expand their fun. |
